Those nutty vegetarians

Posted 11 January 2003, 8.06 am by Acheron

While browsing PETA propaganda, I came across a delightful site called "". Follow the link, click the smallish picture of a little girl.

The problem with pressure groups like PETA is that they need to decide exactly what they stand for - should we not drink milk because it comes from moo cows, or because it's evil and bad for us? Losers.

Nice to see they skimmed (HA!) over the fact it's a very good source of calcium and without it most of us wouldn't have teeth.

No Alex they cover that elsewhere, at great lengths.

Aaron: Reads PETA's website so YOU don't have to.

I'm serious man, just ask dot about why milk is evil.

The problem is that cows milk is made for cows (DUH!), so our bodies only absorb something like 30% of the calcium from it - this has something to do with the EIGHT STOMACHS a cow has. Moreover, a high-protein diet (caused by, say, 2 glasses of milk a day and the West's over-consumption of meat products) causes calcium to be lost through urination. This is why drinking the recommended two glasses of milk a day can actually weaken your bones rather than strengthen them.

Mind you, I don't know what else to put on my cereal in the mornings =/

Any suggestions?

Way I see it - if we've been drinking cows milk for like a million years I see no reason to stop now. I didn't see any reason to stop blood sacrifices to cruel gods either but the fucking PC brigade stopped that too.

Maybe I should follow your example and down a heapin' helpin' of "jaded disattachment"!

Hey it made me the man I am today.

So, probably not a great idea.

That's the self-deprecatory British wit we all pay* to see!

*with attention/time/worthless yet highly decorative Canadian money.
