AKPCEP shut up shop in 2009. That's bloody 10 years ago, give or take. A decade.

Those of you who are still alive, what have you been up to in the intervening years?

Here's me:

  • I have a son called Marlowe who's 7 and awesome
  • I'm married very happily
  • I still work for the same company but am now a director
  • I don't really code anymore, I just install Wordpress like some kind of twat
  • I still play in bands
  • I compose music for films and theatre
  • I'm an actor
  • I write short stories, novels, stageplays and screenplays
  • I'm losing my hair *just a little bit*

All these are topics I can expand upon as we go along. A lot to catch up on!

10 years - where does the time go? On the plus side, I knew there was a reason I kept the old Yahoo email account open.

So 10 years ago I had just left the North, and I remain living in the South a decade on. Still looking for answers, and in the absence of that a bit of conversation and opinion. I'm more aware of what I don't know, which is both worrying and humbling at the same time.
Devilishly handsome and sarcastic as hell

I've gotten steadily less interesting, in my opinion, but I'm not sure if that matters much. Been in the same job for almost 19 years, a relationship for over 13. I have a mortgage and a house full of stuff I don't really need - stability as long as I keep working. I should probably have fun more and worry less.

Where did you write the thing? On the front page or in the forum?

hey buddy. nice profile pic. you haven't changed at all (lolz)

umm, it was in here on this thread where i tried to post (twice). it was lengthy and depressing though, and i've looked at my account and i HAVE been here since all the horrible stuff happened so it's just as well it didn't post.

...and thanks, it's nice to see you again, too.

Ah OK, that's odd - let me know if that happens again, I can't pretend there won't be a few gremlins lurking still.

I'm living in Philadelphia, following stints in Portland, OR (Freshmorningdew_2000 must have just missed us) and NYC. I'm working as a game designer for a small publisher. I do a few podcasts on the side and I'm planning to start performing stand-up this year.

Would be interested in listening to said podcasts (depending on their subject matter, obviously) - can you link us up?

I came up with a rapper name last summer, so though I'm approaching 40 I'm about ready to bust into the rap biz yo. No seriously, I spent over a decade working on stuff on and off (it used to kinda drain me, and it took years to get a skin thick enough for the kind of lyrics I can't help but write). Most of the work went into making it not seem like that, as if the music was really lazily made and the raps just the first take without outright mistakes in it, that's on purpose :P The one thing I still haven't done is clearly separate sampled stuff from what I fully own... the idea to get rid of those speech samples in the intros breaks my heart. But I know I have to. On the other hand, the idea of leaving all that to producers and just rapping kinda thrills me.

Most sound kinda bad, but these two I like for example:

http://a.sandboxx.org/johann/4151/

http://a.sandboxx.org/johann/3903/

All that started out with me writing something "against Bush" on the Flipside forum during the build-up for the Iraq war. Then later I wrote an English "poem" there, and that translated to German was the basis for what are still some of my favourite lyrics.. my favourite version of that atm would be this one I guess ^^

It took me ages to not hate everything I made all the time haha... it's still kinda shitty, but I made peace with that. For me it's about the lyrics anyway, not so much about music you listen to all the time, that would be depressing.

Makes me wish I spoke German - I doubt Google Translate is doing your work much justice!

Have you set any to music?

Yikes, 10 fucking years. Let's see, I:

- Got married
- Had two kids (well, she had them; I just helped make them)
- Bought a house, then upgraded that to a better house a few years later (hi, it's me, Mr American Dream)
- Worked for five years as a community manager for a video game blog
- Got tired of not making money and got a "real" job elsewhere in the software industry
- Got pretty fat, but not super fat

Happy this place is back :)

Also,

Okay.

FistShark Marketing was an unscripted comedy show set in the marketing/pr arm of a shady, possibly eldritch corporation which I produced from 2014 until last year.

The Spin-Off Doctors is an ongoing series over-examining films based on video games.

I'm also currently playing Dungeons & Dragons in the space-themed fifth season of Dice Funk. No, I do not understand the appeal of listening to people play Dungeons & Dragons.
